Cirkall Co.

Started it at 17, still in school. Ran it for six years alongside a full-time Commerce degree at UWA, then closed it at the end of 2025.

The Story

Started Cirkall in 2019 with no team, no funding, and no real business experience. Just a camera and a few local clients. Over six years, grew it into a full-service creative media agency with a consistent client base across Perth's cafés, venues, music artists, and community organisations.

Did all of this while completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing and Management) at UWA full time: lectures, exams, assignments, and an active business running in parallel. The agency ran on repeat clients, which meant every piece of work had to actually deliver results.

How It Grew

Started hands-on across every service: shooting, editing, designing, building websites. Over time, brought on photographers, videographers, designers, and editors, then moved into a more strategic role: setting direction, managing the team, handling client relationships, and running operations.

That shift from doing the work to running the people who do it was probably the biggest thing the agency taught me. Not just how to produce good work, but how to build a system around it so the quality stays consistent regardless of who's holding the camera.

The most useful thing about studying marketing while running a marketing agency was the constant friction between the two. The textbook said one thing. The client's analytics said another. Learning to figure out which one was right (and why) turned out to be the actual education.

What I Took Forward

Six years of running an agency compresses learning that takes most people a decade in a corporate role. Pricing, scoping, managing expectations, knowing when to push back on a brief: all of it came from real situations with real stakes, not simulations.

The camera is still in the bag. Still shooting on a Sony a6400. Being able to actually make things, not just brief people who make things, is something I try never to lose wherever the work goes next.
